We are so pleased with our well sounder! It has eliminated our worries about our well drawing down. We were literally ill worrying that we would lose our well with this awful drought. With the well sounder we can check the water level daily.We spent thousands replacing and lowering our pump a few months ago, if we would have had the well sounder then we could have saved a lot of money. We’re just glad that worry is over.Obviously, we highly recommend the well sounder!Once again, thank you!!!!
Your Well Sounder has done a marvelous job for the 4 wells I’ve tried it on –It comes out very close to right on with my tape. In particular, it works great for a well I just had drilled about 8 months ago that is the deepest (and best) one I have (80 metres). I struggled to get the tape down it (I tried 4 different times) after I installed the well string. (Part of the difficulty was because the casing is not exactly vertical.) And another well I momentarily got the measuring tape stuck in the well string — I was almost to the point where I would have had to pull the string. Several of my remaining wells I haven’t used the tape because of contamination concerns. In other words, this Well Sounder is exactly the solution I have been looking for to monitor and test my wells. Thank you for designing and producing a first class measurement device.
We have had the Well Sounder in use for over 2 months now and I wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the instrument. If you ever need to refer anyone to a satisfied user, I would be glad to highly recommend your instrument. I would do this to help others protect their groundwater resources.
We have completed 18 individual well measurements for members of our property owners association. Our plan is to take reading every 3 months looking for changes and then adjust the frequency as needed. We take a static level reading and then do a brief draw down test by cycling the pump to refill the tank and record how far the water level drops and then recovers in 5 minutes. Not too scientific, but at least it gives some feel for the recovery rate.
Since my well has production problems, I have taken a lot of readings. It will now produce only enough water for household use but not for lawn irrigation which requires about 10 GPM for 2 hours. The spreadsheet and chart is of my well with readings taken every second for a couple of hours with 2 soaker hoses running at roughly 3-5 GPM. The chart is much more informative than a long list of numbers. My pump starts sucking air when the water reaches 60 metres. I plan to install a 1000 gallon tank and pump for lawn irrigation and logging these measurements allows me to verify the performance of the well.
Thanks for developing and producing a fine instrument, I can’t imagine using any other method for well measurement.
I stopped by your place in early April and you helped me with the old WellSounder 2000 that my neighbor gave me.
Well, I’ve had it on my well for a few months now and it works like a charm. I run the power and serial link over 100 feet of buried CAT5 cable. It goes into an old headless PC in the garage running Tera Term (terminal).
The PC has a wireless link onto my home network and I run another program that reads the log every 15 minutes and sends the data to my database server (mySQL). It is nice to control the WellSounder from my computer in the living room. Although I use the power saver mode, I can catch it while it is awake and then make any changes.
I have lost power a couple times over the last few months (a common occurrence around here) and the whole system recovers nicely. I lose no data thanks to the batteries in the WellSounder. I sample every 15 minutes, exactly on the quarter hour, and I have not missed a single sample yet. My sample rate exactly matches the USGS live monitoring data of the two other wells near me. Below is a graph of what I’ve collected so far:
From my spreadsheet, I have a script that collects the data over a specified range from my database. Two other scripts grab the data of the nearby wells from the USGS website.
I adjust the elevation of the other two wells to the elevation at my well. My pump is at 300 feet, so the bottom of the graph is our ‘no-water’ point. I have a map of the well locations, below, and I’m sure I’ll spend the next few months looking for any trends or insights. Most importantly, I’ll have accurate data on my well that may come in handy someday.
